Are you over your long commute? Looking for new podcasts? I've got you covered!
I have been lucky enough to call Austin "home" all my life and I love everything about this city. Everything. . . except for the horrendous amount of traffic! If you are an Austinite or living in the "burbs" of a bustling city like me, you probably feel my pain when it comes to long a commute.
The Podcast Difference
I spend about two hours of my day traveling to and from work five days out of the week so when I tell you Podcasts saved my rush hour sanity -- I mean it! Check out my favorites in the list below.
I have put together a little list of all the podcast series I am loving at the moment. I am always looking for new series so please feel free to share your favorites with me!
Investigative Reporting Podcasts
Bear Brook - NHPR
This investigative podcast will have you hooked from start to finish. The story unravels into so much more than a typical murder mystery when bodies are found in a New Hampshire State Park decades too late.
Believed - NPR
This podcast is not for the faint of heart as it dives deep into the cringe worthy details of the Larry Nassar case. You'll hear from the survivors as they share their stories and how a broken system kept a dangerous pedophile out of trouble for decades.
Dr.Death - Wondery
I loved this series! Every episode made my jaw drop. Dr.Death tells the tale of an incompetent, arrogant or just straight up psychopathic (listen and decide for yourself) neurosurgeon as he leaves a trail of maimed, paralyzed or dead patients in his wake.
In The Dark - APM Reports
The first season of In The Dark definitely deserves a shout out! APM Reports tells the heart wrenching story of the notorious 1989 abduction of Jacob Wetterling. This story pulled at my heart strings with every obviously mishandled piece of evidence it brought to light. Sad to say Season 2 did not have me as hooked as the first.
Crime Podcasts
The following podcasts share the same level of impressive investigating as the list above, but for one reason or another I think they belong in a crime specific category and a list of their own! Broken Harts - IHeart Radio & Glamor
I am about three episodes into this series and dying to hear more as this tragic story unfolds from week to week. Broken Harts explores the death of a large family ( two mothers and six adopted children) after they dove off of a cliff into a river . . . on purpose!
Happy Face - IHeart Radio
The story of the Happy Face killer told from the POV of his daughter, Melissa.
A few more recommended crime related dramas to tune into would have to be Jolted & Sold In America. Jolted tells the story of a recent mass shooting attempt. Sold in America digs deeper into the many facets of the sex trade in the USA.
Celebrity Podcasts
When you need a break from the dark crime pods I've listed above just switch to the ramblings of celebrities on Spotify (which is where I listen most). Coffee Convos
Are you a Teen Mom fan? I am & that's why I love listening to Coffee Convos as I mindlessly straighten my hair and sip coffee in the mornings. Hosted by Kail Lowry and Lindsey Christly with guests from the MTV Teen Moms every now and then!
History/Current Events Standoff - Slate Magazine
Familiar with the standoff between the FBI and an isolated, paranoid family in Idaho? There is way more to Ruby Ridge than I originally knew. Standoff explains!
Caliphate - New York Times
Glimpse inside the secret life of ISIS with investigative reporter Rukmini Callimachi.
Unobscured - IHeart Radio + Aaron Mahnke
Mahnke tells the unobscured version of the Salem Witch Trials! This podcast is really interesting, but needs your full attention because it is jammed backed with details, dozens of characters and many history lessons about the colony's early years.
Christian Podcasts
Journey Women
Hunter Beless covers a variety of topics and relates them back to Biblical teachings! It is rich with theology and wisdom from special guests.
Coffee & Crumbs
Yes, this podcast is mostly geared towards mothers and although I am not yet a mom myself, I enjoy hearing from the multitude of show hosts each week. Coffee & Crumbs is a perfect mix of christian principals, advice on all kinds of topics and stories from women walking different paths in life!
