If you don’t spend your Sunday gorging on BBQ can you really call yourself a Texan? I kid, but in all honesty, I left this little joint feeling grateful to live in a state that takes smoked meat so seriously! We may not have mastered deep dish pizza, New England clam chowder or whatever the west coast claims to do best, but we can take pride in our brisket here in the Lone Star State!

Welcome to Micklethwait, the little painted trailer hooked up to a smoke pit where the beer is free and the wait is long – but MAN IS THE FOOD TO DIE FOR! We arrived 5 minutes before they opened at eleven o'clock and there was already a line backed up to the curb of the tiny parking lot.

You can order by the pound and add sides/desserts as you’d like! We ordered the plates. Mine with the two-meat option, his with three. I went all in and ordered two portions of brisket because I wasn’t fooling around! My husband ordered the brisket, sausage and pork shoulder.

The Sides
I like to think of myself as a potato salad connoisseur, but in reality, I’ve never met a potato salad I didn’t like. Micklethwait's may have topped them all! Now, I know coleslaw is one of those polarizing foods, but if you think the only way to eat the Micklethwait lemon poppy slaw is to throw it out – DON’T! Don’t even think about it! Not only is the pink hue a beautiful pop of color, it adds a fresh, delicious flavor to an ordinarily bland side dish.

We sat under the covered patio in full view of the adorably decorated trailer with the aroma of the smoke drifting in. There is more seating behind the food truck, but it all fills up fast! They have a cooler full of beer AND they serve my favorite brand of bottled tea – Sweet Leaf (Mint & Honey is my weakness).

Micklethwait is the perfect place to spend the afternoon on a beautiful spring day so make your way over there while the weather is nice!

A little bonus fun fact for those who made it to the bottom of this blog post: My Husband and I actually met and fell in love in the BBQ Capital of Texas. Matthew grew up in Lockhart, Texas home to Smitty's Market, Black's Barbecue and Kreuz Market which happened to be featured on Diners, Drive-Ins Dines. Although they have changed management, Chisholm Trail is still at the top of my list for Lockhart BBQ!
